The Hon Thom cable car is a sea-crossing cable car linking An Thoi town in southern Phu Quoc with Hon Thom island. From the cabin you see turquoise water dotted with small islands, fishing villages and boats below. It is one of the experiences visitors look forward to most in the south of the island.
This guide covers the route, operating hours, tickets, best time to ride and practical tips.
How long is the Hon Thom cable car?
The line is about 7.9km long and was recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s longest three-rope sea-crossing cable car when it opened. Cabins leave from the An Thoi station, pass over small islands such as Hon Roi and Hon Dua, and arrive at Hon Thom. Each ride takes about 15 minutes.

Where is the station and how to get there
The departure station is in the An Thoi area in the south, about 25–30km from Duong Dong, roughly 40–50 minutes by road. You can ride a motorbike, drive, take a taxi or use a shuttle if available. See how to get to Phu Quoc and get around for transport options.
Operating hours and tickets
- Hours: the cable car usually runs during the day and may pause at midday or in bad weather. Schedules change by season.
- Tickets: buy at the station counter or through the operator’s official website, app and reputable travel agents.
- Prices: depend on ticket type (cable car only or with the island attractions), age and date. Check current prices on official channels before you go.
Best time to ride
- Dry season (around November to April): clear skies and blue water for the best views.
- Morning: usually less crowded and not yet too hot.
- Avoid windy days: the cable car may pause for safety.
- Holidays and Tet are very busy; arrive early or buy tickets in advance.

What is on Hon Thom island?
At the Hon Thom station you can swim, enjoy water and thrill rides depending on your ticket, or simply relax by the sea and ride back. Allow at least half a day if you want to enjoy the island.
Tips
- Sit by the window for photos; shooting into the sun causes glare.
- Bring a hat, sunscreen and swimwear if you plan to swim on the island.
- If you are afraid of heights, sit in the middle and look into the distance.
- Keep your ticket safe if it is a return ticket.
- Check the weather forecast before going.
Combine with the south island
Near the station are the Phu Quoc Prison historical site and white-sand Sao Beach. A suggested south day: prison in the morning, swim at Sao Beach at midday, cable car in the afternoon, then dinner at the night market. Full plans in our Phu Quoc itinerary.
